Kenyan delegation in Maputo

A delegation of 15 Kenyan companies from the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) led by Karanja Kibicho, the principal secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, is visiting Maputo between May 25-29 in order to seek opportunities.
On May 26, the visiting businesspeople took part of an introductory meeting on doing business in Mozambique with presentations made by the Confederation of Business Associations (CTA), the Center for Investment Promotion (CPI) and the Institute of Export Promotion (IPEX), among others. They also participated in B2B meetings and conducted visits to Beluluane Park and Maputo Port.

Phyllis Wakiaga — CEO designate of KAM.
A total of 15 Kenyan companies in different sectors are here seeking opportunities in Mozambique. We wish to improve the volume of trade between African countries. The volume is very low; according to the World Trade Organization, in 2011, the trade exchange between African countries represented 10 percent of total exchange, when for Asian countries the rate was 52 percent, South America 26 percent, Europe 72 percent and North America 48 percent.

Sachen Gudka – CEO Skanem
Norwegian company, largest labelling company in the world.
13 plants in 10 countries.
We have one plant in Kenya and export to 15 countries in Africa. We are already working in Mozambique. We supply labels and packaging for fast-moving consumer goods (edible oil, lubricant, cosmetic, personal care and home care). Last year we began to work in Mozambique and our business is growing. Now, we are looking for trade opportunities and possible investment in a plant in the southern part of the country, where the majority of industry is.

Idah Asin – Manager of Government and Industry Affairs — Kenya Airways
We are in Mozambique to push for Bilateral Air Services Agreement negotiation talks.
The actual bilateral agreement gives us five connections per week between Mozambique and Kenya, from Maputo, Nampula, Beira and Pemba airports. We wish to have the possibility of an unlimited number of connections; this would allow us to propose a daily flight to our passengers and we wish to have destinations in Tete and Nacala as well.
